Medical Device Company’s future depends on delivering not only a product but also a service. Data is a big part of the service as the industry continues to focus on improving patient outcomes. As medical device companies adopt service as a new business model, they need to leverage and monetize patient, medical data and machine data. Payers and providers are very interested in leveraging data from devices to improve patient outcomes. Collecting, leveraging and monetizing data does open the door to understanding the compliance, legal and over value of the data. It is critical to understand the current legal landscape on data use and disclosure by device companies and be aware of emerging trends in the laws that apply to how data is collected, protected and leveraged.
